Welcome
LOTS OF LUDWIG
In June of 2011 we began a major recording project – that of all ten Beethoven sonatas - at the Glenn Gould studio
in Toronto. We chose this project because these works continue to shape who we are as an ensemble and form the foundation of our repertoire. (The “Kreutzer” was also the work that brought us together musically and romantically!) Even after playing and performing all of these sonatas for many
years, recording all ten is a daunting, challenging, and an extremely enriching undertaking. We are delighted to be working again with David Jaeger as
producer and the wonderful team at the GG. Recording sessions will continue in January and June of 2012 and we anticipate a fall 2012 release of the three CD set on the Marquis Classics label. Click here to hear a little preview of Op. 12, No. 1.

JUNO WIN!
Congratulations to composer R. Murray Schafer, whose Duo for Violin and Piano, recorded by Duo Concertante, won the category of Best Classical Composition at the Junos on March 25. The work is featured on the Duo's most recent CD, Wild Bird. Duo Concertante performed the work at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on March 22 as part of the Juno-sponsored gala concert "Ovation." Wild Bird has also been nominated for an ECMA Instrumental Recording of the Year award, and the Duo's 2009 release, It Takes Two has been nominated for an ECMA Classical Recording of the Year award.
Known for the passion and brilliance of their performances, Duo Concertante (Nancy Dahn, violin, and Timothy Steeves, piano) have been developing since 1997 the extraordinarily unified voice that has become one of the most striking features of their work. Named NLAC Artist of the Year in May 2010, Duo Concertante have released four acclaimed CDs, of which It Takes Two was described as “spectacular” (American Record Guide). A fifth recording, Wild Bird (2010), comprises works written especially for the duo by Canadian composers Murray Schafer, Chan Ka Nin, and Kati Agócs, and includes Schafer’s Duo for Violin and Piano which just won a Juno Award under the Classical Composition of the Year category. In the fall of 2010, Duo Concertante also released their classical music video, “Tico Tico." Dahn and Steeves are energetic and experienced educators who have given hundreds of workshops and master classes; in 2000, they founded the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival, of which they remain Artistic Directors, to bring together young chamber music performers with world-class artists and ensembles. Duo Concertante maintain a busy touring schedule, with frequent performances across North America, as well as in Europe and China.
